There are a lot of foods that are advertised as "Healthy" but are really not. This list may surprise you that you are consuming these on a regular basis.



1. Flavored Yogurts with the Fruit on the Bottom. One 6 oz strawberry yogurt has 40 grams of carbs and 29 grams of total sugar.

  • It tastes like dessert because it is.

  • It will raise your blood sugar which will in turn spike your insulin levels

  • Your stomach acid kills most of the healthy bacteria (Probiotics) in yogurt.

  • Choose plain Greek Yogurt instead. It contains 6 grams of carbs and 6 grams of total sugar.

2. Breakfast Cereal Highly refined and processed. Most plain not sweetened cereals have 25 grams of net carbs and two grams of total sugars. Frosted breakfast cereals combined with skim milk have 32 grams of net carbs and 22 grams of total sugars. Even if you choose a Bran type cereal, you are still getting 24 grams of net carbs and 16 grams of total sugars. 3. Protein bars and Protein Drinks Most people in the Western world get too much protein in their diet. Most protein bars taste delicious because they are full of unhealthy ingredients and lots of carbs and sugar. Example: They contain 24 grams of net carbs and 19 grams of total sugar. ADA says we should be getting just 25 grams or six tsp. of total sugar. The problem is that is way too much sugar. It will keep your insulin levels high all day, keeping you in an unhealthy fat-storing mode. The average American consumes 275 grams of sugar from carbs. It comes out to 6 pounds a day. 219 pounds a year. 4. Fruit Juice Example: Orange juice: 28 grams of total carbs and 20 grams of total sugar. Apple juice: 29 grams of total carbs and 28 grams of total sugar. Juice Pouch: 14 grams of total carbs and 13 grams of total sugar High Fructose Corn Syrup. Cola: 42 grams of total carbs and 42 grams of total sugar. Drink lemon water, Hibiscus tea, carbonated beverages with some of your own added favors added instead. 5. Granola and Granola Bars Store brought granola has 17 grams of total carbs and 24 grams of total sugars. Make your granola at home. Search the web for healthy recipes for making it at home. 6.Iceberg Lettuce Salads are healthy, but not when adding Iceberg lettuce. It is virtually free from any nutritional value. Choose dark leafy greens instead like Romaine, Kale, or Arugula 7. Muffins They usually have a long list of ingredients that you cannot pronounce for a reason. They are packed with unhealthy oils, including high fructose corn syrup. There is a saying that muffins are really cupcakes. The average muffin contains 34 grams of net carbs and 22 grams of total sugars. Make your own at home with healthier ingredients. Search the web for healthy recipes for making it at home.
